Kaiwhakahaere Hoahoa Hangarau | Design Technology Manager
Specialist

I trained as a piping/mechanical/structural draftsman and, after working in the industry for 15 years, I transitioned into a CAD consultant and trainer. In this role I was offered the CAD Manager position at Boffa Miskell and subsequently started in the Auckland office in January 2001 - the rest, as they say, is history.

Initially starting in CAD management, I was asked to head up the Technical Services team (a combination of GIS & CAD specialists) in the Auckland office, which I did for nearly 15 years; before switching back to become the National CAD Manager. In this role I led Boffa Miskell's CAD system and training program for CAD and graphics working alongside the National BIM manager.

I've spent the past several years spearheading Boffa Miskell's journey to becoming a leader in building information modelling (BIM) for landscape architecture. With the demarcation lines between BIM, CAD, and GIS starting to blur, I was asked to lead the newly formed Design Technology team. Sitting within our design discipline, Design Technology (DT) combines our design-related graphic, BIM and CAD resources. Working closely with our Technical Services specialists in GIS and visualization, DT develops, manages, and supports our software and technological workflows and resources. We support the design disciplines to not only deliver projects more efficiently and to appropriate quality standards, but also in identifying, testing, and implementing innovation within the project workflow and deliverables to support our design offering as market leaders.
