Kaihoahoa Whenua | Landscape Architect
Kaiwhiri | Associate Principal
I specialise in undertaking landscape and visual impact assessments (LVIA), seascape and townscape character assessments, residential visual amenity assessments and cumulative assessments. My experience is across a broad range of sectors including energy, onshore and offshore renewables, transport, and residential and commercial development in the UK and New Zealand, working for private and public clients.
My landscape career began in Scotland, where I most recently worked for a multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering company. In this role, I was involved in a wide variety of projects, from small residential subdivision assessments through to assessments for quarries, high voltage transmission lines, large-scale on- and offshore wind farms, large-scale transport projects (road and rail), space launch facilities and floating hotels.
Since returning home in 2022 and working at Boffa Miskell, my involvement in a range of development types has continued. I have prepared appraisals and assessments for wind farm developments, wastewater treatment facilities, solar farms, geothermal power stations, quarries and residential developments.
I am well-practised in site work, desk-based research, report writing, consultation, and the facilitation of workshops. I have been involved in project development and procurement from project conception (route/site selection, options appraisal feasibility studies) through scoping and LVIA, to construction and on-site inspections and monitoring.
In addition to the above, I am proficient in the use of GIS mapping and conceptual visualisation work, as well as design development and master planning.
