Boffa Miskell collaborated closely with the Fletcher Living team and architectural and engineering consultants to provide a fully integrated Urban Design and Landscape Design response across the development. We developed a site-wide landscape strategy encompassing nine key moves which in turn informed the detailed design of the public realm, streetscape and residential landscape.
The result is a development of 358 architecturally designed homes, including apartments, terraces, and standalone houses set around a hillside in a way that celebrates the landform and emphasises green space.
The landscape design sought to acknowledge the surrounding landscape of Tāmaki Makaurau, establish a relationship with the heritage and landscape character qualities of the Auckland Racing Club, and integrate the architectural and streetscape form into the distinctive and character-defining landform of ‘The Hill’.
At a more detailed level, our design team looked to:
- create opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy the site’s unique outlook through the provision of a trackside walk and belvedere gardens,
- provide legible and safe pedestrian connections within and through the site for use by residents and the wider community,
- and design the streetscape as a vibrant part of the public realm.
Boffa Miskell worked with the client to guide the project through the resource consent process via a ‘Fast Track’ application and is currently undertaking detailed design workstreams associated with obtaining the required engineering approvals. Construction has commenced on-site with early earthworks operations.
