A very special place, with a village character, where older people can live within their community.

Rawhiti Estate is a short walk from Remuera Road and its boutique shopping district.

Boffa Miskell was actively involved throughout the consenting process, meeting with neighbours, sharing the proposed designs and keeping the community informed. The goal throughout the concept design, consenting and detail design process was to develop a village-like plan that would allow residents to live their lives and welcome visitors in an environment that would entice those visitors to stay and enjoy the atmosphere.

We worked with our client BeGroup NZ Limited and the project team on the concept for this senior living and continuing care community. Our input included the urban design analysis, landscape assessment and visual assessment.

Prior to development of the Rawhiti Estate village, the site was the Rawhiti Bowling Club, located in a sheltered area on the northern slopes in Remuera. Boffa Miskell landscape architects developed the detailed design package for the project's outdoor spaces and provided input during construction and implementation.

Rawhiti Estate includes a village green space suitable for outdoor gathering, which links to a large internal space for community events. The residences include 2- and 3-bedroom apartments with their own garden space; as well as continuing care and memory loss suites.

The outdoor spaces include a vegetable garden, and several courtyards which receive sun at different times of the day. Ornamental plantings include a range of herbaceous plants to provide colour and interest throughout the seasons. The planting scheme included a significant number of roses retained from the original Bowling Club gardens.
