A vision for expanding Porters Ski Area with eco-conscious planning and design
Merging Porters Ski Area into the adjoining Crystal Valley would create New Zealand’s largest and most accessible intermediate ski terrain, within one hour of a major urban area and international airport. In addition, the proposed development would have New Zealand’s first on-mountain village with gondola access to the ski area.
Boffa Miskell conducted scoping of environmental and statutory issues and carried out baseline studies, focusing on landscape and ecology. Our role also included master planning for the village, as well as preparing detailed landscape and ecology assessments.
3D computer modelling was used to integrate engineering, architectural and landscape design elements, specifically for earthworks, ski terrain, mountain plans and the village development. We provided all project graphics, including maps, report layouts, presentations and visual simulations.
Additionally, Boffa Miskell managed the project’s environmental and master planning work streams, collaborating with external consultants and the client team. We prepared an Assessment of Environmental Effects, a Plan Change, and a Section 32 report.
Our services also extended to offering consultation and strategic advice, liaising with statutory bodies, preparing and presenting expert evidence, and providing capital costings for landscape. Throughout the project, Boffa Miskell effectively managed key engineering and design files.
