A landmark project for Te Tai Poutini, creating an authentic and compelling visitor experience and opportunities for economic growth.
Dolomite Point, Punakaiki, on the South Island’s West Coast has become an iconic short-stop tourist destination because of the ‘Pancake Rocks’ and associated blowholes.
Infrastructure improvements and investment have not kept pace with requirements, and may aspects of infrastructure, the site and facilities are not able to cope with the existing demand, let alone the anticipated continual increase in visitor numbers.
Significant investment was required to secure the integrity of the site and a first-class visitor experience. Consequently in 2018, DOC successfully applied for funding for the Provincial Growth Fund to construct and deliver the Dolomite Point Redevelopment Project (DPDP).
