Our masterplan work included the identification of key projects and staging of works the airport will seek to complete in the next 20 years. Key projects include reconfiguration of access to the terminal with an integrated ring road, set down areas, car parking and cover access to the terminal; redevelopment of Memorial Avenue as a grand entry boulevard and large plaza space.
‘Forest in the Sky’ focused on an elevated landscape at the terminal, embracing views to the Southern Alps and Port Hills; ‘Our Journey’ encompassed the South Island creation tradition; ‘First Class’ brought back the glamour from air travel’s golden age; ‘The Source’ celebrated the influence of water on the Canterbury landscape and its importance to all cultures and people; ‘Taste of the South’ highlighted the amazing landscapes, adventure activities and culinary delights; and ‘Botanica’ focused on the gardenesque and collecting and displaying the best of the South Island.
Throughout the project we worked closely with various stakeholders within the airport and transport engineers Abley Consultants to develop a functional, but exciting masterplan that will future-proof the operation and development opportunities for the Terminal Precinct.
