Sylvia Park Precinct: beyond a traditional shopping centre

20 September 2023

The vision for Sylvia Park development goes beyond a traditional shopping centre model.

Rather than focusing solely on internal retail experiences, Sylvia Park developer Kiwi Property aims to create authentic and vibrant mixed-use precincts that are integrated into the surrounding area.

Landscape architect Yoko Tanaka is the Boffa Miskell design lead for the various projects that make up the Sylvia Park development. She says the overall suite of work emphasises the importance of creating a holistic experience for users.

“An enhanced and pedestrianised ground plane is an integral part of the future of Sylvia Park,” says Yoko. “The streetscape and outdoor public spaces are the glue that connects the buildings within the precinct. These spaces are designed to provide high levels of amenity, ensuring they are attractive, functional, and enjoyable for users.”

The first step was the development of overall ground plane concepts that relate to, and are implemented alongside, the pipeline of work to be delivered in the next two years.

“The project has been highly collaborative, and Boffa Miskell has a long-standing relationship with Kiwi Property,” says Yoko. “Our workshop-style meetings are about exploring and informing the opportunities, feasibilities, and aspirations for the precinct together with the wider project team.”
