Stephen Fuller has been a practicing ecologist for over thirty-five years, and has experience in ecological impact assessment, project management, and ecological research. He has worked in private practice as an advisor and consultant to central and local Government and private clients. He is a key contributor to the success of Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary, and Stephen continues to bring his professionalism to his practice, most recently to the renewable energy sector.

Stephen joined Boffa Miskell in 2002 and has contributed to projects across several different sectors, including biological delineation and classification, environmental policy, research, renewable energy, roading and urbanisation. Stephen draws on his extensive learning and experience to display a highly competent and successful practice as a consummate professional. His practice as a strategic advisor and project manager for environmental outcomes is exemplary.

Stephen’s ability to facilitate and form strong and enduring relationships amongst key stakeholders is a hallmark of his practice and his influence on environmental outcomes. At all times Stephen demonstrates a very high level of ethical behaviour and is always ready with a solution for an acceptable environmental outcome. His logical and persuasive manner helps bring out the best in those working with him. This extends to his support of early career practitioners, and Stephen has mentored many young ecologists at Boffa Miskell and beyond.

As an environmental practitioner, Stephen has achieved a sustained record of leadership, contribution and influence. He has played a leading role in several environmental organisations; from local authorities, owner-consultancy, wildlife management and as partner and a senior ecologist at Boffa Miskell. These roles have led to significant advancements in the profile and stewardship of environmental outcomes.

Notably, Stephen was project manager and then General Manager of Karori Wildlife Sanctuary Trust, rebranded to Zealandia. Stephen was instrumental in making Zealandia a success, and in that role, he pioneered the establishment of predator-free fences in New Zealand. Stephen has continued to innovate and instigate novel environmental practice.

Stephen work has stretched the breadth of New Zealand but has also focused on Wellington, where he has been an active member of the Wellington Branch of the EIANZ. Stephen’s commitment to science-evidenced advice has led him to making a significant contribution to environmental practice and outcomes in New Zealand.
