Simon Clarke joins Boffa Miskell as an Independent Director

8 September 2025

Tauranga-based Simon Clarke joins planners Hamish Wesney and Chris Ferguson; landscape planners Rebecca Ryder and Yvonne Pflüger; and fellow independent director Greg Barclay on the Boffa Miskell Board.

Simon brings significant experience in governance, digital transformation, and strategic advisory. These skills align closely with our purpose: Together | Shaping Better Places and our company mission to create and support sustainable environments across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Simon’s career spans corporate law, executive leadership, and digital innovation. He began as a commercial lawyer in Tauranga, later working in Ireland and Wellington before transitioning into executive roles. His leadership roles include serving as CEO of a Meridian subsidiary and Chief Digital Officer at Trustpower.

“I went from private practice lawyer to in-house counsel; then into executive roles, including CEO, technology business leader, and Chief Digital Officer,” Simon explains. “Boffa Miskell is a great fit for where I am now professionally and personally.”

Simon currently chairs Bay Venues and sits on boards including Aurora Energy and Blue Current, a smart metering company operating in New Zealand and Australia. Through his consultancy, Matua Governance, he advises organisations in the utility and environmental sectors.

Simon says he was impressed by Boffa Miskell’s values and reputation, and the company’s governance model.

“I really like Boffa Miskell as an organisation — it’s purpose-driven, and operates in areas that matter, like sustainable infrastructure and supporting community-based outcomes.

“It shows real foresight that Boffa Miskell has had independent directors for over a decade,” he continues. “That’s rare in a privately-owned professional services firm.”

Since joining in April, Simon has attended strategy sessions and board meetings, including a visit to Christchurch and a partner dinner in Auckland.

“I’ve been surprised by the breadth and scale of projects Boffa Miskell is involved in across the country,” he says. “But whatever the size or location of the project, it’s very clear that our work really matters to the people doing it. That kind of personal investment as a key component of company culture is quite unique, and it’s something very special.”
